China Urges De-escalation in Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday issued a call for the de-escalation of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, following recent reports of Ukrainian troops entering Russia’s border region of Kursk.
In an official statement, the ministry emphasized China’s commitment to promoting a peaceful resolution to the crisis and urged all involved parties to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions. “China will continue to maintain communication with the international community and play a constructive role in promoting the political settlement of the crisis,” the statement read.
The ministry reiterated China’s stance on de-escalation, urging all parties to adhere to what it termed as the “three principles” of conflict reduction: no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of hostilities, and no provocation by any party. These principles, according to China, are essential for preventing further deterioration of the situation and paving the way for a political resolution.
China’s call comes amid heightened concerns over the potential for the conflict to spread beyond its current borders, as well as the increasing human and economic toll of the ongoing war. The Chinese government has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy as the primary means of resolving the conflict, positioning itself as a mediator in international efforts to bring about peace.
The situation in the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, has drawn significant international attention as fears grow that the conflict could expand further into Russian territory, exacerbating an already volatile situation. China’s appeal for restraint and adherence to the three principles underscores its broader diplomatic strategy of promoting stability and avoiding further escalation in global conflicts.
