Oryx Universal College Unveils State-of-the-Art Campus Aligned with National Vision 2030
Doha, The Gulf Observer: Oryx Universal College (OUC) has officially unveiled its state-of-the-art campus in Al Sadd, marking a significant milestone in its mission to deliver world-class British education in Qatar. The new campus, which spans over 20,000 square metres, represents a key step in the college’s efforts to align with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) by fostering an ecosystem that nurtures critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity among students.
During a press conference held yesterday, OUC President Azmy Ameer highlighted the importance of Qatar’s progressive education policy, which has garnered global recognition for its alignment with QNV 2030 and its role in establishing an education system that meets international standards. “Qatar has gained global recognition for its giant steps in developing an education system that meets international standards and is ranked among the best in the world,” Ameer stated.
The unveiling of the new campus coincides with the fifth anniversary of OUC, an institution that offers Liverpool John Moores University British degree programmes for Bachelor’s and Master’s students in Qatar. The development includes advanced research centres, state-of-the-art classrooms, and dedicated spaces for collaborative learning, all designed to enhance educational excellence.
Key features of the new campus include:
- Modern Classrooms and Laboratories: Equipped with cutting-edge technology, these facilities support a variety of academic disciplines, providing students with an immersive and comprehensive educational experience.
- Advanced Research Centres: These centres offer dedicated research facilities aimed at fostering innovation and development across various fields, ensuring students and faculty have the resources needed for groundbreaking research.
- Expansive Library and Learning Commons: With a vast collection of resources, these areas provide students ample opportunities for research and collaborative study.
- Recreational and Collaborative Spaces: The campus includes vibrant recreational facilities, open gathering spaces, and collaborative work zones aimed at promoting a balanced lifestyle among students.
The new campus is set to accommodate thousands of students, significantly increasing OUC’s capacity to deliver high-quality education and extracurricular activities. The emphasis on innovation and leadership development is expected to position the college as a central hub for interdisciplinary collaboration.
“We are incredibly excited to unveil our new campus, which represents a significant investment in the future of education in Qatar,” Ameer said. “This facility is not just a place of learning; it is a dynamic environment where ideas will flourish and innovation will thrive. Our commitment to providing a world-class education is reflected in every aspect of this campus.”
Reflecting on OUC’s growth over the past five years, Ameer noted that the institution, which started with just 10 students, has now produced over 200 graduates and boasts a diverse student population from about 15 nationalities, with approximately 50 percent of the students being Qatari. The college offers three engineering programmes—mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and quantity surveying—closely aligned with Qatar’s construction industry, as well as software engineering programmes.
Ameer emphasized the college’s ongoing commitment to expanding its offerings in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, which are crucial to achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. “The Ministry of Education is encouraging us to continue offering unique programmes in the STEM area, as the Qatar National Vision 2030 requires a huge number of professionals qualified in STEM-related programmes,” he added.
Dr. Homaid A. Al Madfa, Chairman of Oryx Universal College, echoed these sentiments, stating, “This campus reflects our vision of nurturing leaders who are ready to face the challenges of an ever-evolving world. We are dedicated to equipping our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed globally.”
In a statement, Dr. Hareb Muhammad Saeed Al Jabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), highlighted the importance of such educational advancements in aligning with Qatar’s national vision for education and development. He congratulated the management of OUC on the opening of the new campus and expressed hope for the college’s continued progress in graduating national talents capable of advancing national work and contributing to sustainable development in Qatar.
OUC has announced plans to hold a grand opening ceremony for the new campus in January 2025, inviting the community to join in the celebrations.
