Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The number of electric vehicle (EV) charging piles in China reached 11.43 million by the end of September, reflecting a substantial 49.6 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to the latest data released by the National Energy Administration.

Of these charging piles, approximately 3.33 million are public facilities, while private charging points account for 8.1 million units. With 28.09 million registered new energy vehicles on the road, China currently maintains a ratio of one charging pile per 2.46 vehicles, underscoring the nation’s commitment to bolstering its EV infrastructure to match rising demand.

In the first nine months of 2024, China recorded a net addition of 2.84 million charging piles. Additionally, the total charging amount for EVs reached 66.67 billion kWh, marking a 12.4 percent year-on-year increase.

The National Energy Administration noted that China’s charging infrastructure has expanded significantly along highways and within smaller towns and counties, which now host 417,000 charging units as of September’s end. The ongoing expansion aims to ensure accessible charging options across diverse regions, facilitating broader EV adoption nationwide.

This robust growth in charging facilities aligns with China’s ambitious goals to lead in sustainable mobility and reduce its carbon footprint, further supporting its fast-growing fleet of new energy vehicles.
