China’s Wang Huning Leads Delegation to Hanoi to Mourn Nguyen Phu Trong

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Acting as the Special Representative of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping, China’s top political advisor Wang Huning led a CPC delegation to Hanoi to mourn the passing of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), on Thursday.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, also held meetings with Vietnamese President To Lam and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
A solemn respect-paying ceremony took place at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi. Trong’s coffin was surrounded by flowers and draped in a large Vietnamese national flag, creating a somber atmosphere.
On behalf of Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee, and in his capacity as Xi’s special representative, Wang laid a wreath, observed a moment of silence, and bowed three times before Trong’s coffin. He conveyed sincere condolences from President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan to Trong’s widow, Ngo Thi Man, and left a heartfelt message in the condolence book.
In meetings with Vietnamese leaders, Wang expressed deep grief over the passing of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong. He emphasized that upon hearing the sad news, Xi Jinping paid tribute to the late leader at the Vietnamese Embassy in China, and the CPC Central Committee sent condolences to the CPV Central Committee.
Wang’s appointment as Xi’s special representative and his leading of the CPC delegation for the mourning reflect the heartfelt grief and sincere condolences of Xi and the CPC Central Committee towards the CPV Central Committee and Trong’s family. At this poignant moment, the Chinese party and people stand firmly with their Vietnamese counterparts, Wang stated.
Wang praised Trong as a staunch Marxist, a great leader of the CPV and the Vietnamese people, and a great friend of the Chinese people. He described Trong’s death as a significant loss to the cause of socialism in Vietnam and the global peace and progress movement.
Wang reiterated that the Chinese party and government will continue to support the Vietnamese party in leading its people on a development path suited to their national conditions, and in advancing Vietnam’s reform, opening up, and socialist development.
Under the strong leadership of its central committee, Wang believes the CPV will carry forward Trong’s philosophy and principles on party and state governance. He expressed confidence that the Vietnamese people will successfully achieve the goals and tasks set at the 13th National Congress of the CPV and prepare for the 14th National Congress of the CPV.
Wang highlighted that Xi and Trong were devoted to developing relations between the two parties and countries. Under their strategic guidance, China-Vietnam relations have maintained steady and sound development, reaching new heights of a community with a shared future.
China is ready to work with Vietnam to implement the important consensus reached during Xi’s visit to Vietnam last year. Wang emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges, deepening practical cooperation in key areas, consolidating public support for China-Vietnam friendship, and strengthening multilateral coordination and cooperation to promote a China-Vietnam community with a shared future.
The Vietnamese side acknowledged the immediate condolences sent by the CPC Central Committee and Xi’s visit to the Vietnamese Embassy in China. They expressed deep gratitude for Wang’s visit as Xi’s special representative, reflecting the special bond between the CPC, the Chinese government and people, and their Vietnamese counterparts.
Vietnam remains determined to follow the national development path established by the older generation of leaders and Trong. They emphasized that China remains a priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy and committed to promoting a Vietnam-China community with a shared future in line with the important consensus reached between Trong and Xi.
The Vietnamese side congratulated the CPC on the successful third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, noting that the session’s measures for deepening reform will promote China’s high-quality development and modernization, providing valuable reference and impetus for Vietnam’s continued reform efforts.
During his stay in Hanoi, Wang also met with Esteban Lazo Hernandez, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power, who attended the condolence activities.
