Chinese Vice Premier Emphasizes Prioritizing Farmland Management
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong, during an inspection tour in north China’s Tianjin Municipality on Wednesday, urged concerted efforts to ensure effective farmland management and meticulous preparations for spring farming. The Vice Premier emphasized the critical role of these initiatives in establishing a robust foundation for an abundant harvest in the upcoming year, 2024.
During his visit to Jinnan District and Wuqing District, Liu actively engaged in understanding the status of winter wheat growth, farmland management practices, and the provision of meteorological services. Particularly, his attention was directed towards villages that bore the brunt of summer floods, where he gained insights into the recovery of the local agricultural sector and the restoration of flood-affected farmland facilities.
Vice Premier Liu underscored the paramount importance of preparatory measures for spring farming, emphasizing that the grain planting area during this season constitutes more than half of the annual total, contributing to approximately 60 percent of the yearly output. He stressed the necessity of ensuring the timely and adequate supply of essential resources such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and high-quality seeds.
Furthermore, Liu called for the continuation of efforts to restore agricultural facilities affected by disasters, recognizing their pivotal role in sustaining agricultural productivity. Addressing the recent challenges posed by cold waves impacting agriculture, the Vice Premier emphasized the need to strengthen meteorological services and implement effective pest prevention and control measures to mitigate potential losses.
