Cyprus and UAE Partner to Deliver Urgent Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

Cyprus

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: In line with humanitarian principles and recognizing the urgent need to address the dire situation in Gaza, the Republic of Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have joined efforts to deliver life-saving assistance to Palestinian civilians.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to alleviating the suffering of civilians by ensuring safe, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian aid through all possible routes, including the additional maritime corridor from Cyprus to Gaza, known as the Amalthea Corridor.

Launched in March 2024, the Amalthea Maritime Corridor complements the international community’s collective efforts to dispatch aid by land, air, and sea. With the operational cooperation of UNOPS and the World Central Kitchen, and under the UN Security Council Resolution 2720 mechanism—which facilitates, monitors, and verifies aid flow—Cyprus and the UAE have shipped 1,200 tonnes of humanitarian assistance via Ashdod Port for onward delivery to Gaza. The operation is financed by the UAE through the Amalthea Fund.

The significant humanitarian contribution, supported by partner countries and international humanitarian organizations, consists mainly of essential food supplies, particularly baby nutrition and flour, aimed at meeting urgent needs among the most vulnerable populations.

Cyprus and the UAE reiterated their shared commitment to work closely with international partners to ensure the large-scale delivery of aid across Gaza, in full accordance with international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles.
