Manama, The Gulf Observer: Davranbek Hasanbayev secured a small bronze medal for Turkmenistan in the snatch event at the World Weightlifting Championships in Manama, Bahrain. Competing in the 102 kg weight category, Hasanbayev lifted 182 kg to claim third place in the snatch. However, he was unable to register a score in the clean and jerk, failing to complete any of his three attempts, which left him with a zero score in the combined total.

The fiercely contested 102 kg weight category saw 24 weightlifters from 21 countries vying for the podium. In the combined event, Spain’s Marcos Ruiz claimed the bronze medal with a total lift of 395 kg (183 kg in the snatch and 212 kg in the clean and jerk). Ibrahim Elbah from Qatar secured the silver with 399 kg (174+225), while Kazakhstan’s Artem Antropov captured gold with an impressive 400 kg (170+230).

The Turkmenistan national team has sent eight athletes to the 2024 World Championships. Earlier in the competition, Bunyad Rashidov delivered a strong performance, earning a silver medal in the snatch in the 73 kg weight category.

Turkmenistan’s representation at the championships underscores the nation’s commitment to advancing its presence in the international weightlifting arena. Despite setbacks, Hasanbayev’s achievement highlights the resilience and potential of Turkmen athletes on the world stage.
