Delegation of Turkmenistan Participates in the 65th Session of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission in Vienna

Vienna, The Gulf Observer: The 65th session of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) is underway in Vienna from November 10 to 12, 2025, bringing together representatives of member states to discuss measures aimed at strengthening the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, enhancing monitoring and verification mechanisms, and expanding global cooperation.
The Turkmen delegation, led by Guljemal Saryyeva, Director of the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, is actively participating in the session.
In her address at the plenary meeting, Saryyeva reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s unwavering commitment to the goals and principles of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), emphasizing its role as a cornerstone of the international disarmament and non-proliferation system. She noted that Turkmenistan was among the first countries to sign and ratify the Treaty and continues to advocate for global peace, stability, and the prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation.
Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s participation in the International Monitoring System (IMS), particularly the contribution of the PS44 “Alibek” Primary Seismic Station, which provides reliable data to the International Data Centre. The delegation also announced the forthcoming visit of a CTBTO expert mission to Turkmenistan to carry out scheduled maintenance at the station.
Highlighting efforts to strengthen scientific and technical capabilities, the Turkmen delegation underlined ongoing development of the National Data Centre and the country’s active participation in CTBTO training and preparatory programs. In this regard, Turkmenistan expressed readiness to host a regional training course for specialists from the National Data Centres of neighboring countries in the first half of 2026.
The delegation further noted that 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Treaty for signature, as well as Turkmenistan’s 30 years of participation in the global initiative. The country reiterated its intention to take part in commemorative events as a reaffirmation of its steadfast commitment to strengthening international peace and security.
