Democrats Target Trump Amid Pro-Gaza Protests During Harris' Speech

Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: President Joe Biden expressed doubts about former President Donald Trump’s willingness to concede peacefully if he loses the upcoming US election. In an interview with CBS on Wednesday, Biden stated, “If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all,” when asked about the prospects of a peaceful transfer of power in 2025. Biden further emphasized, “He means what he says. We don’t take him seriously. He means it.”

Biden’s concerns come in the context of Trump’s history of refusing to acknowledge his defeat in the 2020 election, despite being impeached twice and indicted twice for various alleged attempts to interfere with the electoral process. Trump was also convicted of 34 felonies related to a hush-money scheme during the 2016 election. His baseless claims of widespread fraud in 2020 incited the violent storming of the US Capitol, resulting in over 100 police officers being injured.

Meanwhile, Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris faced interruptions from pro-Gaza protesters during a campaign speech outside Detroit. The protesters criticized Biden and Harris for their support of Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Harris responded to the disruptions by asserting, “I am here because I believe in democracy and everybody’s voice matters,” but sternly added, “If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.” Her comments were met with cheers from the majority of the audience, who chanted, “We’re not going back!”

The demonstrations reflect growing concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to reports, nearly 40,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed, and over 92,000 others wounded due to the conflict. A study published in The Lancet suggests the true death toll could be more than 186,000, considering the cumulative effects of the war.

Harris’s speech in Detroit followed a rally in Wisconsin and a major event in Pennsylvania with her running mate Tim Walz, emphasizing their campaign’s focus on countering Trump’s influence and promoting democratic values.
