Deputy Emir of Makkah

Makkah, The Gulf Observer: On the early morning of Sunday, Prince Saud bin Mishaal, Deputy Emir of Makkah Region, led the traditional annual washing of the Holy Kaaba on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Upon arrival at the Grand Mosque, Prince Saud was welcomed by Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabeeah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, and Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

The ceremonial washing commenced with Prince Saud cleansing the interior walls of the Kaaba using Zamzam water mixed with rose water, a preparation made by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques. Following the washing, the Deputy Emir performed two units of Tawaf, circumambulating the Kaaba as part of the ritual.

This year’s washing involved a combination of Zamzam water, rose water, oud, and other perfumes. The process adheres to the tradition established by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), reflecting the deep reverence and respect for this sacred act.

In line with tradition, the Saudi monarch or his representative carries out the washing from within the Kaaba. Towels are utilized to wipe down the walls, which are cleaned with white cloths soaked in rose and musk perfumes. Additionally, Zamzam water mixed with rose perfume is applied to the floor, which is then wiped with bare hands and palm leaves.

The annual washing of the Holy Kaaba is a significant event, symbolizing the continuity of this sacred tradition and honoring the legacy of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
