Deputy PM – FM of Kazakhstan Concludes Productive Bilateral Meetings in Geneva

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: As part of his official visit to Geneva, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, engaged in a series of significant bilateral meetings with distinguished heads of international organizations. The press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on the outcomes of these meetings.

During the meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussions centered around current global challenges and the deepening of regional cooperation among the countries of Central Asia. Notably, the initiative to establish the UN Regional Hub for Sustainable Development for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty was a focal point. Minister Nurtleu extended an invitation from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit scheduled for July this year.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed gratitude for the invitation and commended Kazakhstan’s efforts in promoting sustainable development and bolstering international peace and security, particularly within regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

In a meeting with Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, discussions revolved around Kazakhstan’s active participation in the Human Rights Council. The positive assessment of ongoing democratic transformations in the country was coupled with support for technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Minister Nurtleu underscored Kazakhstan’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, emphasizing their integral role in President Tokayev’s recent reform initiatives.

The meeting with WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus highlighted the high level of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the World Health Organization. Discussions included the promotion of President Tokayev’s initiative to create a Coalition for Primary Health Care.

In a meeting with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Minister Nurtleu conveyed the Government’s commitment to creating conditions conducive to the growth of the creative economy. Collaborative efforts in the area of intellectual property were discussed, including the establishment of a Master’s program with a double diploma between WIPO and a Kazakh university.

Additionally, bilateral talks were held with counterparts from Indonesia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Albania, and Georgia. The discussions encompassed the current state and prospects for further development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including mutual support within international organizations. Key aspects of activities within the Human Rights Council, along with joint promotion of initiatives on the UN agenda, were also addressed during these talks.

The meetings underscored Kazakhstan’s commitment to international collaboration and its active role in addressing global challenges across various domains.
