Dubai to Host Inaugural L’Etape Dubai Cycling Race
Dubai, The Gulf Observer: Dubai is set to make history by hosting the inaugural L’Etape Dubai cycling race, presented by the Tour de France, on February 2, 2025. Organized by Belton and Be Cool Events in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and sponsored by Škoda Cars, this prestigious race is one of the most celebrated amateur cycling events globally.
The announcement of the race, which will bring the legacy and atmosphere of the world’s oldest cycling race to Dubai, was made during a press conference at the Dubai Sports Council headquarters. The event was attended by key figures, including Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary-General, and Maher Julfar, Executive Vice President of the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council received a specimen of the official Tour de France jersey, along with the Hungarian team jersey, presented by representatives of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber confirmed the participation of over 50 cyclists in next year’s race.
The L’Etape Dubai will feature four race components over two days. On February 1, a Kids Race will be held at 9:00 GST, followed by a Family Ride at 9:30 GST. The main events, including the 110 km L’Etape Dubai and the 60 km “The Ride,” will take place on February 2, starting at 6:00 GST.
The race will highlight Dubai’s cultural and tourist landmarks, providing a unique experience for participants. Ali Omar Al Balooshi, Director of Sports Events at Dubai Sports Council, emphasized the significance of this event in enhancing Dubai’s reputation as a global sports hub, noting the city’s commitment to promoting cycling for its health benefits and community engagement.
Dubai’s recent investments in cycling infrastructure, including the addition of new tracks in the Hatta area and various other locations across the emirate, underscore the city’s dedication to fostering a vibrant cycling culture.
Christian Prudhomme, Director-General of the Tour de France, expressed his excitement about bringing the L’Etape series to Dubai, noting that the race offers cyclists of all levels the chance to experience the passion and excitement of the Tour de France.
The L’Etape Dubai marks a new chapter in the region’s sports history, with thousands of cycling enthusiasts from around the world expected to participate. The event is poised to become a landmark occasion in Dubai’s sporting calendar, further solidifying the city’s status as a premier destination for international sports events.
Further details about the race course and related activities will be announced at a later press conference, with registration for the races ongoing until the end of September for “The Ride” and December for “The Race.”
