Duqm Airport, Oman: A Catalyst for Economic Growth and Development

Duqm, The Gulf Observer: The Regional Airports Unit of “Oman Airports” has marked a significant milestone in fostering economic growth and sustainable development within the Duqm Special Economic Zone through collaborative efforts with various parties and partners.

Duqm Airport, a vital component of Oman Airports’ strategic vision to bolster infrastructure and logistics services in the region, has achieved noteworthy progress since its inauguration five years ago. This success has been realized in close coordination with the Oman Airport Commercial Operations Unit, responsible for marketing and business development.

Sheikh Hilal bin Hamad Al-Mujali, Director of Duqm Airport at Oman Airports Company, shared insights into the remarkable advancements. “The sustained growth in passenger numbers and flight operations at Duqm has resulted in a substantial increase, with 33,348 arrivals and 31,514 departures in 2023 compared to 12,663 arrivals and 11,706 departures in 2020,” he stated. These statistics underscore the diligent efforts to enhance air traffic, fostering accessibility to the region and consequently attracting investments and stimulating tourism in the Wilayat of Duqm.

Looking forward, Sheikh Hilal emphasized strategic plans to develop Duqm Airport in alignment with the industrial expansion in the region. These plans encompass the expansion of facilities and the enhancement of services to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger and freight traffic. These improvements aim to position Duqm Airport as a key air transport center and a gateway for trade and tourism in the region.

He highlighted Oman Airports’ commitment to expanding the flight network to and from Duqm Airport, encompassing a broader array of local and international destinations. Increased air connectivity is expected to catalyze business opportunities, facilitate trade, and encourage cultural exchange, particularly with the rising movement of businessmen, investors, and tourists.
