Dushanbe Launches “QR Guide” Project to Enhance Digital Tourism and Promote Cultural Heritage

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The Dushanbe city administration has announced the launch of a new digital initiative titled “QR Guide”, aimed at improving access to information about the city’s cultural, historical, and tourist sites. The project will introduce QR code-based signs across key locations, providing detailed information in Tajik, Russian, and English, with future plans to add Chinese and Arabic.
According to the Dushanbe Tourism Development Department, the initiative seeks to enhance the city’s tourist infrastructure while ensuring accurate and accessible information about Tajikistan’s cultural and historical heritage. The project is part of the wider “Years of Digital Economy and Innovation Development – 2025–2030” program, approved by Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali.
Through the “QR Guide,” visitors and residents will be able to access text and audio information about 45 major cultural, historical, and tourist sites by scanning QR codes placed on specially designed marble signs. The initiative aims to improve the quality of tourist information services, reduce dependence on unqualified tour guides, and further promote the growth of digital tourism in the city.
City officials confirmed that additional QR code signs will be installed at other cultural and tourist sites across Dushanbe in the coming phases.
The project comes at a time when tourism in Tajikistan continues to grow steadily. In the first nine months of 2025, approximately 1.4 million foreign tourists visited the country — a 24% increase compared to the same period last year. From January to September this year, 1,388,800 foreign tourists arrived, up from 1,118,500 during the same period in 2024.
The majority of tourists — 1,258,100 — came from CIS member countries, while 130,000 visitors arrived from other nations, reflecting the country’s increasing global appeal.
