Kuwait City, The Gulf Observer: In a significant political development, Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has issued a decree appointing Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah as the Crown Prince of Kuwait, as reported by Kuwait State Television on Saturday.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, born in 1953, brings extensive experience in both domestic and international politics to his new role. He served as the Prime Minister of Kuwait from 2019 to 2022. A graduate of Kuwait University with a degree in political science, Sheikh Sabah has held several key positions, including Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Foreign Minister.
Emir Sheikh Mishal ascended to the throne as Kuwait’s 17th ruler on December 16, 2023, following the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away at the age of 86. Under the Kuwaiti constitution, the Emir is required to appoint a new Crown Prince within one year of his accession.
This appointment is seen as a critical step in ensuring the continuity of leadership and stability in Kuwait. Sheikh Sabah’s extensive diplomatic and political experience is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s governance and its foreign relations.
The new Crown Prince’s appointment underscores Kuwait’s commitment to a smooth succession process and the maintenance of its political stability amidst the evolving regional dynamics.
