Erdogan Calls for Comprehensive Arms Embargo Against Israel to Address Regional Conflicts
Ankara, The Gulf Observer: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized the necessity of implementing a comprehensive arms embargo against Israel to exert greater pressure on Tel Aviv to cease its military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
Following a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Wednesday, Erdogan’s remarks were relayed by the country’s Communications Directorate via the social media platform X. He highlighted that such an embargo is crucial for increasing pressure on Israel amid ongoing conflicts in the region.
Erdogan condemned Israel’s actions, stating that it seeks to “spread the flames of conflict” it has ignited throughout the Middle East, aiming to render Palestinians landless in their homeland. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to ensuring that Israel’s actions are met with accountability, declaring that Ankara will explore “all avenues” to prevent impunity for what he described as Israeli crimes.
During the meeting, regional and global issues were discussed, particularly focusing on Israel’s military actions against Palestinian and Lebanese territories. Erdogan also expressed Türkiye’s hope for a swift resolution to tensions in Syria, Libya, Somalia, and Ethiopia, emphasizing the importance of achieving peace, calm, and stability in those regions.
