Erdogan Criticizes Biden’s Ukraine and Gaza Policies at NATO Summit
Washington DC, The Gulf Observer: As U.S. President Joe Biden seeks international support for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian advances and navigates criticism for his backing of Israel in its ongoing war on Gaza, he now faces dissent from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In exclusive written responses shared with Newsweek, Erdogan, attending the annual NATO summit in Washington, DC, criticized Western strategies in Ukraine and Gaza.
Erdogan argued that Western powers are taking potentially dangerous approaches to both conflicts, warning that these actions could escalate into larger regional confrontations. Addressing the main issue at the NATO gathering, Erdogan reaffirmed his stance against joining the war in Ukraine, despite Biden’s calls for NATO unity against Russia.
“The solution is not more bloodshed and suffering, but rather a lasting peace achieved through dialogue,” Erdogan told Newsweek.
He further criticized the strategies of Western allies, stating, “The attitude of some of our Western allies towards Russia has only fueled the fire. This has resulted in more harm than good for Ukraine. In contrast, we have engaged in dialogue with both warring parties in an effort to bring them closer to peace.”
Erdogan’s statements highlight a significant division within NATO regarding the approach to the Ukraine conflict, as well as differing views on the situation in Gaza. His remarks underscore the complexity of achieving a unified stance among NATO members in addressing these critical international issues.
