Erdogan Discusses Key Issues with NATO Leaders at Washington DC Summit
Washington DC, The Gulf Observer: On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington DC, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan engaged in a series of closed-door meetings with key NATO leaders, including Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The discussions focused on bilateral ties, regional tensions, and Israel’s war on Gaza, as reported by Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Meloni, President Erdogan emphasized the ongoing development of relations between Türkiye and Italy. He expressed optimism that bilateral ties would continue to strengthen through collaborative efforts. Erdogan also reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, urging all countries to contribute to these efforts.
During his discussion with Prime Minister Mitsotakis, President Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s dedication to fostering a “spirit of solidarity” with Greece based on good neighborliness. He stressed the importance of increased efforts to resolve conflicts in both Ukraine and Palestine.
In his talks with Chancellor Scholz, President Erdogan called for increased pressure on Israel to cease its attacks on Gaza and seize the opportunity for a ceasefire. He also sought Germany’s support in revitalizing Türkiye’s European Union membership process, emphasizing the significance of this support for regional stability.
