Erdogan, Macron Discuss Ukraine Conflict and Bilateral Ties in Phone Call

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations as well as pressing regional and global issues, including the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate announced.
During the call, President Erdogan emphasized that a “historic turning point” has been reached in the efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war and underscored the importance of seizing this opportunity to achieve a lasting peace.
“Türkiye is ready to contribute in any way, including hosting negotiations, to help establish a ceasefire and permanent peace,” Erdogan stated, reiterating Ankara’s longstanding commitment to facilitating diplomatic solutions to the crisis.
He also underlined the importance of continued Franco-Turkish cooperation in launching comprehensive peace talks and contributing to Ukraine’s postwar recovery and reconstruction.
Erdogan recalled that Türkiye previously hosted a series of peace talks in Istanbul in March 2022, shortly after the onset of the war, though those discussions failed to yield a final agreement. Despite this, Ankara has consistently offered to resume its mediating role, given its balanced diplomatic relations with both Moscow and Kyiv.
The call comes amid renewed international interest in diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the war, now entering its fourth year.
