Erdogan Reaffirms Türkiye’s Opposition to Foreign Intervention in Iran

Erdogan

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye has never supported foreign intervention in Iran, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday.

According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as regional developments. President Erdogan told President Pezeshkian that he was closely following the situation in Iran and stressed that Ankara has never taken a positive stance toward scenarios involving foreign intervention against Tehran.

The Turkish president underscored that resolving existing problems through dialogue and preventing further escalation of tensions in the region are also in Türkiye’s national interest.

The phone call came amid recent unrest in Iran, where protests erupted in late December due to worsening economic conditions, including a sharp depreciation of the national currency and rising inflation.

Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of backing what they described as “rioters” and “terrorists,” alleging that they carried out attacks on public and private property, including shops, banks, and mosques.
