Erdogan Reiterates Commitment to Universal Human Rights, Condemns Violations in Palestine

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and condemned global indifference to its violations, particularly in Palestine. Marking Human Rights Day, Erdogan addressed key humanitarian crises in a statement released by Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications on X.

“As a state and a nation, we have considered it our humanitarian duty not to remain silent against crimes against humanity in Palestine from the very beginning. We have stood by our Palestinian brothers and sisters with all our means and we continue to do so,” Erdogan declared.

He described Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories as “where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is violated,” and criticized those who “claim to be defenders of human rights” but remain passive in the face of atrocities in the region. “Their inaction will be remembered as a dark stain in history,” he added.

On Syria, Erdogan expressed optimism about a potential shift towards peace, stability, and reconciliation. “We will provide all necessary support for the establishment of an inclusive and comprehensive government in Syria and the efforts of our Syrian brothers and sisters to get their country back on its feet,” he said.

The Turkish President also called for a fairer global system that upholds universal rights and eliminates double standards. “It is a global obligation for all countries to protect the vested rights of humanity and to end practices that violate these rights. Reviewing the rules-based international system with a more inclusive and fair approach constitutes the first step towards fulfilling this global obligation,” Erdogan stated.

Erdogan’s remarks come as Türkiye continues to advocate for stronger international action on human rights issues, aligning with its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and broader regional stability efforts.
