Erdogan, Sheikh Mohamed Discuss Regional Stability and Cooperation

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone conversation on Monday, discussing pressing regional and global issues, including developments in Syria and Palestine, as well as enhancing bilateral relations.

President Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and unified Syria, where ethnic and religious groups coexist harmoniously under a framework of national unity. He emphasized that Türkiye cannot recognize the PKK/YPG as representatives of the Kurdish people in the region, reiterating the country’s stance against the terrorist organization. The PKK/YPG, designated as a terrorist group by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has exploited Syria’s civil war to establish a self-declared Kurdish autonomous region.

Erdogan also called for concerted efforts to prevent Daesh and other actors, including Israel, from exploiting instability in Syria, stressing the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity during the country’s transition.

On the Palestinian issue, President Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s dedication to ending the ongoing crisis, describing it as a humanitarian priority.

The conversation underscores the shared concerns of Türkiye and the UAE over regional security and stability and reflects both nations’ commitment to addressing critical challenges collaboratively.
