Erdogan Urges Global Action to Safeguard Children of Gaza

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: On the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a fervent appeal to the global community to safeguard the “honour and dignity, as well as the children of Gaza.”

Addressing the United Nations directly, Erdogan urged the international body to take decisive action against the ongoing violence in Gaza. “I invite the United Nations, which declared this special day, to take a concrete step against the massacre of innocent children in Gaza by bombs for months, and to take action with the understanding that the world is bigger than five,” he said, referencing the five permanent members of the UN Security Council who hold veto power.

Erdogan expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of young lives in Gaza, stating, “On the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, I remember with sadness the more than 15,000 children who have been barbarically murdered in Gaza since October 7.”

He emphasized Turkey’s commitment to supporting oppressed populations worldwide, particularly in Gaza. “Wherever children are being killed, wherever they are subjected to hunger and poverty, we will continue to extend our hand and work hard with the belief that a more just world is possible,” Erdogan affirmed.

Since the Hamas attack on October 7, Israel has maintained a severe offensive on Gaza, defying a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. According to local health authorities, the conflict has claimed over 36,500 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, and has left nearly 83,000 others injured.

Nearly eight months into the conflict, Gaza remains devastated, suffering from extensive destruction and a crippling blockade that severely limits access to essential supplies such as food, clean water, and medicine. The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of genocide and recently mandated Tel Aviv to cease its operations in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians have sought refuge.

President Erdogan’s call to action highlights the urgent need for international intervention to protect the innocent lives caught in the crossfire and to work towards a lasting and just resolution to the conflict.
