Fidan Stresses Unity, Justice, and Regional Cooperation at Al Sharq Youth Conference

Fidan

Istanbul, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized the central role of Palestine in global moral and political discourse during a keynote address at the Al Sharq Youth Conference in Istanbul on Saturday.

“Palestine remains the moral compass of our time,” Fidan stated, describing the situation as a crucial test for the Muslim world to transform shared values into collective action. He highlighted the need to “repel Israeli aggression and address the issue of Israeli expansionism.”

Fidan noted that a subtle but meaningful transformation is occurring within the Islamic world, stressing that “unity remains the foremost requirement.” He underscored Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to sustain regional cooperation, calling for “moral courage and local ownership” among nations.

Addressing broader geopolitical dynamics, Fidan remarked that the world is witnessing a shift in the balance of power, with continuing conflicts and extensive global strategic competition. He stressed that the next phase of history should prioritize “cooperation, not competition and division,” and be characterized by “partnership, not polarization.”

The foreign minister called on the Islamic world to pursue collective action in areas of security, defense, and shared visions, adding that “only regional actors can provide sustainable solutions to regional problems” due to their deep understanding of historical and local contexts.

On the issue of Gaza, Fidan emphasized that a ceasefire alone does not constitute peace, which requires justice and the establishment of a sovereign, free, and viable Palestinian state. Reflecting on Syria, he said, “Since the beginning, we stood on the side of the Syrian people and their aspiration for freedom,” highlighting Türkiye’s role in facilitating constructive engagement between the new administration and international stakeholders. He added that the goal remains a stable, unified Syria, free from terror and occupation.

Addressing the youth, Fidan described diplomacy as requiring perseverance and behind-the-scenes efforts to bridge divides. He encouraged young people to approach challenges with creativity and courage, advising them to “not be defined by the crises around you” but to focus on defining solutions.
