General Min Aung Hlaing Elected President in Myanmar Parliamentary Vote

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has been elected President following a secret ballot conducted during the session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, officials announced.

The presidential election of the Third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw was held at the convention hall of the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw, with 584 out of 586 eligible representatives in attendance. The voting was conducted in accordance with the Election Rules of the President and Vice-Presidents, under the supervision of Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe.

According to the official results, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing secured 429 valid votes from the Pyithu Hluttaw group, emerging as the candidate with the highest number of votes. Presidential candidate U Nyo Saw received 126 votes from Defence Services Personnel representatives, while Nan Ni Ni Aye obtained 29 votes from the Amyotha Hluttaw group.

The Speaker confirmed that all 584 ballot papers issued were successfully retrieved and verified, ensuring the validity of the voting process under Rule 43 (k) of the election regulations.

Following the vote count and verification, the Speaker formally declared Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as the newly elected President. U Nyo Saw and Nan Ni Ni Aye were subsequently declared elected as Vice-Presidents.

The presidential electoral process involved members of the Presidential Electoral College, comprising all Pyidaungsu Hluttaw representatives, who cast their votes through a secret ballot system.

The session concluded with the announcement that the third-day meeting of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw will resume on the morning of April 6.
