Germany Allocates €50 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Syria

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Germany will provide €50 million ($51.3 million) in humanitarian aid to Syria, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced on Sunday during the Riyadh meetings on Syria, hosted by Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at a press briefing, Baerbock stressed the urgent need for continued support for the Syrian people, particularly those who have suffered throughout the years of civil war. “Syrians now need a quick dividend from the transition of power, and we continue to help those in Syria who have nothing, as we have done throughout these years of conflict,” Baerbock stated.

The €50 million will be allocated for food, emergency shelter, and medical care, focusing on the needs of vulnerable populations, especially women and children, who have been disproportionately affected by the ongoing crisis. Baerbock highlighted the worsening conditions over the past year, with millions of Syrians lacking sufficient food and medical treatment.

“We know that new displacement, particularly affecting women and children, continues to exacerbate their suffering,” she said. “We will stand with the people of Syria to contribute to a peaceful transition for everyone.”

Baerbock also underscored the broader significance of the aid, explaining that it serves not only to address immediate humanitarian needs but also as an investment in long-term security for Germany and Europe.

The German foreign minister expressed her gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting the international discussions, bringing together both regional and European nations to address the numerous unresolved challenges facing Syria. “This is an important step in working collectively to find lasting solutions to the ongoing crisis,” she concluded.
