Almaty, The Gulf Observer: Global technology giant GITEX Global is set to expand into Central Asia with the launch of a new flagship event in Almaty, marking a significant milestone for the region’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem.

Almaty Akim (Mayor) Darkhan Satybaldy held talks on Tuesday with Trixie LohMirmand and Rupert Adam, representatives of inD — the global organizer of GITEX — to discuss preparations for the upcoming GITEX AI Central Asia & Caucasus Kazakhstan exhibition.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed key organizational steps for hosting the event in Almaty, which is poised to serve as the brand’s gateway into Central Asia. Mayor Satybaldy emphasized that the city’s selection underscores its position as a leading IT hub in the region.

“The city has already proven to be the region’s leading IT hub, home to a high concentration of technology companies, international centers, and a vibrant startup ecosystem. Hosting the GITEX forum will provide an opportunity to showcase these achievements internationally and attract new partners and investors,” Satybaldy said.

He highlighted that particular attention is being given to infrastructure readiness, including upgrades to the Atakent Business Cooperation Center venue, logistical arrangements, and coordination among relevant municipal services. The Akim has instructed city departments to work closely with organizers to develop and implement a comprehensive action plan for the event.

Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of inD, described Almaty as an emerging innovation bridge between Europe and Asia, noting that Kazakhstan’s digital and artificial intelligence ambitions are increasingly materializing into tangible economic infrastructure.

“GITEX arrives at a key moment to accelerate this dynamic, strengthening the region’s technological potential, investment attractiveness, and global connectivity,” she stated, adding that the initiative positions the region as a serious participant in the emerging AI-driven global economy.

With a legacy spanning over 45 years, GITEX has built a strong international reputation and earned the trust of governments, corporations, startups, investors, and key ecosystem stakeholders. Today, the GITEX brand is represented in 14 cities worldwide, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Serbia, Singapore, Türkiye, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan.

The inaugural GITEX AI Central Asia & Caucasus Kazakhstan will be held in Almaty on May 4–5, 2026, bringing together startups, investors, technology leaders, and government representatives from across the globe.

The 2026 edition will focus on three priority sectors:

  • Artificial Intelligence — integrating advanced technologies into urban environments and business operations;
  • GovTech — showcasing Kazakhstan’s progress in digital government services;
  • Cybersecurity — presenting solutions in data protection and cloud computing.

In addition, the exhibition is expected to generate significant economic impact for the city, including growth in real estate, currency circulation, and investment inflows.

Officials noted that hosting the event will represent a landmark moment for both Almaty and the wider Central Asian and Caucasus region, reinforcing its ambition to build an innovation-driven and globally connected economy.
