Heavy Rains Trigger Catastrophic Flooding in Southern Germany
Berlin, The Gulf Observer: Catastrophic flooding has swept across southern Germany, forcing the evacuation of over 600 residents from their homes, according to media reports.
Days of relentless rainfall have caused river levels to surge in several major waterways, including the Donau, Neckar, and Guenz, resulting in extensive flooding in numerous coastal cities and towns. Many regions are experiencing the highest water levels seen in a century.
The two southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg have borne the brunt of the flooding. As of 2 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) on Sunday, 10 districts in Bavaria had declared a state of emergency. In the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen alone, over 670 residents have been evacuated, according to local authorities.
The German Weather Service has issued the highest level of severe weather warnings for several districts in southern Germany. In Meckenbeuren, a city in Baden-Wuerttemberg, approximately 1,300 people have also been instructed to leave their homes due to the imminent flood risk.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have mobilized emergency response teams to assist affected residents. The priority remains ensuring the safety of those in the flood zones while providing necessary aid and support to those displaced by the disaster.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops. Residents are urged to stay alert and follow the instructions of local authorities.
