Historic Artifacts from Dashoguz Province to be Transferred to Arkadag Museum

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mahrijemal Mammedova proposed on Friday, during a regular online meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the transfer of significant historical findings discovered near the gengeshlik of Dovkesen district, named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi in Dashoguz province, to the Museum of Ethnography and Local History in Arkadag city. The transfer is scheduled for June 22, 2024.

According to the official media of Turkmenistan, residents of the Dovkesen district unearthed 18 gold coins, 3 silver coins, 61 fragments of gold coins, and 8 multi-colored items. These valuable artifacts have been temporarily handed over to the museum fund of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve Köneürgenç.

Preliminary analysis by scientists and specialists from the National Administration for Preservation, Study, and Protection of Cultural and Historical Monuments of Turkmenistan, in collaboration with numismatists from the Academy of Sciences, identified some of the gold coins as bearing the names of Sultan Ala ad-Din Muhammad, ruler of the Khwarazmian Empire, and his father Sultan Tekesh.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of commemorating these findings. As part of the celebration, a working session titled “Global Best Practices in Museum Treasure Accounting and Preservation” will be held, accompanied by an exhibition featuring the newly discovered treasures and decorative arts.

In recognition of their contribution, citizens who discovered and facilitated the transfer of these artifacts to the state will be awarded commendatory gifts. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to take appropriate measures to popularize these discoveries among the general population, enrich the museum fund, and ensure the secure transfer of these valuables to the museum in Arkadag city.

The government meeting also addressed several other state matters, reflecting the administration’s ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting Turkmenistan’s rich cultural heritage.

This initiative marks a significant step in the preservation and appreciation of Turkmenistan’s historical artifacts, fostering a deeper understanding of the nation’s heritage among its citizens and the global community.
