Ilham Aliyev Highlights Geopolitical Challenges and Azerbaijan’s Role in Shaping a Just World Order

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed participants of the international conference titled “The New World Order: Geopolitical Aspects and Global Challenges”, held in the city of Shusha, underlining the complex geopolitical developments and emerging global dynamics shaping the current international landscape.

In his message, President Aliyev noted that the modern world is witnessing the rise of new centers of power and a transition toward a new global order, amid numerous threats to national, regional, and international security. He stressed that safeguarding national interests, independence, and sovereignty, while promoting peace, stability, cooperation, and multilateral development, has become exceptionally vital in this context.

The President also reflected on Azerbaijan’s own experience, recalling that despite four UN Security Council resolutions demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces, nearly 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory remained under occupation for almost three decades. He stated that Azerbaijan faced years of double standards and injustice. However, through the 44-day Patriotic War and a one-day anti-terror operation, the country succeeded in restoring its full territorial integrity and sovereignty by its own strength.

President Aliyev affirmed that this achievement realized the vision of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who saved Azerbaijan from deep socio-economic and political crisis and laid the foundations of its national statehood ideology.

Emphasizing Azerbaijan’s commitment to a just world order, President Aliyev highlighted the country’s proactive efforts to transform the South Caucasus and wider Eurasian region into a space of dialogue and cooperation. He noted that joint projects with partner nations are significantly contributing to regional and international security and are building a solid foundation for strategic cooperation between East and West, as well as North and South.

Referring to Azerbaijan’s four-year chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, the President reiterated that Baku remained firmly committed to the Bandung Principles, consistently defending justice, international law, and the legitimate interests of fellow member states.
