Indonesia and France Set Joint Vision for 100 Years of Diplomatic Relations by 2050

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In a landmark development during French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Indonesia, President Prabowo Subianto and President Macron announced a bold vision for the future of Indonesia-France relations. The two leaders agreed to draw up a joint vision declaration to guide the relationship toward 100 years of diplomatic ties by 2050.

The announcement was made during a joint press statement following a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday. President Prabowo emphasized the significance of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, noting that Indonesia and France have shared a strategic partnership since 2011.

“We agree to go further by adopting a joint vision declaration toward 100 years of Indonesia-France relations by 2050,” President Prabowo said, highlighting the importance of expanding cooperation in strategic areas.

The two leaders expressed their commitment to increasing collaboration in various fields, aiming to strengthen the enduring partnership between their countries. This vision, according to Prabowo, will seek to bolster cooperation in strategic sectors, creating a framework for mutual growth and shared objectives for the future.

During the state visit, President Macron became the first head of state from the European Union to visit Indonesia following Prabowo’s election as president, symbolizing the strong ties and friendship between the two nations. “This proves our closeness and strong friendship between our two countries,” Prabowo remarked, expressing gratitude for Macron’s visit.

As part of the state visit, which is also marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both leaders unveiled a strategic declaration on culture. The declaration aims to serve as a guideline for future cooperation in cultural and creative economic fields, contributing to the social and economic development of both nations.

President Macron, along with French First Lady Brigitte Macron, was warmly welcomed at the Merdeka Palace, where the two heads of state held a bilateral meeting with their respective delegations. Several agreements were signed during the visit.

President Macron’s trip to Jakarta and Magelang, taking place from May 27–29, 2025, is part of his Indo-Pacific tour, which includes stops in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore. Following the bilateral discussions, the two presidents were set to share a dinner at the State Palace later in the evening.
