Italian PM Meloni Explores Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage in Samarkand

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Giorgia Meloni, who is currently on an official visit to Uzbekistan, was warmly welcomed by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev upon her arrival. As part of her visit, the two leaders toured several cultural and historical landmarks in the city of Samarkand.
The official program began with a visit to the world-renowned Registan architectural ensemble, a symbol of Uzbekistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage. The Registan Square, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, stands as one of the most iconic landmarks in Central Asia. It is home to three magnificent madrasahs — Mirzo Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tillaqori — which are celebrated for their grand scale, intricate ornamentation, and historical significance.
Prime Minister Meloni was provided with a detailed overview of the history behind the construction of these architectural masterpieces, their decorative and structural uniqueness, and the important cultural and historical events associated with the ensemble. The visit offered the distinguished guest a deep insight into the creative legacy of the Uzbek people and their contributions to global civilization.
Following their visit to Registan Square, the leaders proceeded to the “Eternal City” historical and ethnographic park located within the “Silk Road Samarkand” international tourism center. The park features exhibitions highlighting Uzbekistan’s rich traditions, craftsmanship, and applied arts. A special cultural program was also presented, including vibrant performances by national dance ensembles, further showcasing the artistic diversity and spirit of the Uzbek people.
The visit underscored the strong cultural ties and mutual respect between Uzbekistan and Italy, laying the groundwork for enhanced bilateral cooperation in the fields of heritage preservation, tourism, and cultural exchange.
