Indonesia and UK Sign MoU on Sustainable Development and Green Economy

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning (PPN), Suharso Monoarfa, and British Minister of State for Development, Anneliese Dodds, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in sustainable development and the green economy. The signing ceremony, held in Jakarta, underscores the two nations’ commitment to addressing key global challenges and promoting shared development goals.

“The main focus here is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Minister Monoarfa stated. “We recognize that the SDGs cover a broad range of issues, including carbon emissions, gender equality, and infrastructure development.” He emphasized that this collaboration builds on existing partnerships between Indonesia and the UK, particularly in the areas of development project financing and funding.

The newly signed MoU, which will be in effect for the next five years, is expected to foster greater cooperation between business sectors in both countries. “I am very pleased with the signing of this agreement, which will encourage business actors from the United Kingdom and Indonesia to collaborate on specific areas,” Monoarfa said.

British Minister Dodds highlighted the joint effort to achieve net-zero emissions as a key component of the agreement. She noted the many opportunities for collaboration in advancing human development and achieving environmental sustainability, despite the geographical distance between the two countries.

Both governments have explored further collaboration in supporting Indonesia’s National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) and National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), reinforcing shared values and a mutual vision for sustainable progress.
