Indonesia, China Discuss AI Cooperation in Agriculture and Smart Cities

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s Communication and Digital Affairs Minister, Meutya Hafid, met with Nong Shengwen, Secretary of the Nanning City Party, Guangxi Province, China, to discuss Indonesia’s digital transformation and explore opportunities for AI integration in agriculture and smart city development.

During the meeting on Tuesday, Hafid highlighted that Indonesia-China digital infrastructure cooperation is the largest among Indonesia’s global partnerships, significantly enhancing connectivity in remote areas through 4G and 5G technology.

She expressed Indonesia’s keen interest in expanding AI collaboration with Nanning, given its success as an AI-driven smart city. “Nanning has extensive expertise in smart city development, and its digital talent and startup ecosystem hold valuable insights for Indonesia’s digital growth,” Hafid remarked.

Indonesia aims to train nine million AI experts by 2030, and Hafid reiterated Indonesia’s openness to international collaboration in advancing AI technology.

Shengwen welcomed the initiative, reaffirming Nanning’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s AI development through policies and facilities. “We hope to establish a China-ASEAN AI cooperation and innovation center in Indonesia, fully backed by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs,” he stated.
