Indonesia Contributes US$12 Million in Food Aid to Gaza Through WFP

New York, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has pledged US$12 million worth of food assistance to the people of Gaza through the World Food Programme (WFP), in response to the worsening food crisis in the region.
The contribution, equivalent to 10,000 tons of rice, was first announced by President Prabowo Subianto during his address at the United Nations General Assembly on September 23. The package was officially handed over to WFP on September 24, 2025.
Foreign Minister Sugiono, speaking at a press briefing in New York on Friday, said the joint decision by the governments of Palestine and Indonesia to channel the aid through WFP was taken to ensure timely and well-targeted distribution.
“This is the best option given the extreme difficulty of delivering aid into Gaza, while the food needs there are extremely urgent,” he said, noting that the security situation on the ground remains precarious.
Sugiono underlined that Indonesia has a long history of cooperation with WFP in delivering humanitarian support to crisis-affected countries. He stressed that the current assistance would provide Gazans with nutritious, ready-to-eat meals that meet international food standards.
“As the President stated at the UN General Assembly, Indonesia remains committed to supporting the Palestinian people with rice aid and other essential resources,” the minister affirmed.
Despite the pledge, logistical challenges continue to hamper the flow of aid into Gaza, including restricted access to clean water, fuel shortages, and limited storage capacity.
“Indonesia’s commitment to Palestine is unwavering. We continue to explore and utilize all available mechanisms and channels to deliver meaningful support,” Sugiono said, adding that the government has also disbursed US$2 million in assistance through the International Red Cross for Palestine this year.
