Indonesia Ready to Host 19th PUIC Conference

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, has affirmed the DPR’s full readiness to host the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), scheduled to take place in Jakarta from May 12 to 15.
The upcoming conference holds additional significance as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the PUIC, which was established in 1999 to promote parliamentary cooperation among members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
In a statement released on Saturday, Speaker Maharani underscored the strategic importance of the event, describing it as a key moment for Indonesia to reaffirm its global leadership in promoting democratic, inclusive, and solution-oriented diplomacy within the Muslim world.
“Hosting this conference is not merely a ceremonial task—it represents moral leadership and a key aspect of our foreign policy,” she stated.
Maharani emphasized that Indonesia, through the DPR, is committed to serving as a bridge for dialogue, collaboration, and transformation among parliaments of OIC member states. She noted that parliamentary diplomacy must now go beyond rhetoric to deliver real, impactful results.
Carrying the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, the conference will highlight the central role of transparent, accountable, and effective governance in ensuring the strength and resilience of the Muslim world.
The DPR, she said, is determined to guide PUIC discussions toward concrete outcomes, particularly in addressing the complex crises faced by many member states. Among the key priorities is staunch advocacy for the Palestinian cause and the pursuit of sustainable peace and institutional capacity-building.
“Parliamentary diplomacy today demands concrete actions. Issues such as Palestine, institutional capacity-building, and regional peace must be at the forefront of our agenda,” Maharani affirmed.
Approximately 500 delegates from PUIC member and observer countries are expected to attend the conference, making it one of the most significant international parliamentary gatherings hosted by Indonesia.
Speaker Maharani expressed hope that the conference would foster greater solidarity and shared commitment among OIC parliaments, strengthening efforts to uphold humanitarian values and cooperative leadership.
“We hope the presence of leaders and representatives from OIC countries will further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation and shared commitments for the future,” she concluded.
