Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni has reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to take a leading role in establishing a global carbon market built on integrity and transparency to drive sustainable green economic growth.

Speaking at the High-Level Breakfast Roundtable during the Sustainable Business COP30 (SBCOP) in São Paulo, Brazil, Minister Antoni emphasized Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the country’s carbon market is founded on trust and national sovereignty.

“The collaboration reflects our determination to ensure that our carbon market is built on trust, integrity, and national sovereignty,” Antoni stated, as quoted from an official release on Monday (November 10).

During the event, the Ministry of Forestry and the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a high-integrity voluntary carbon market ecosystem aligned with the highest international standards.

Highlighting Indonesia’s pivotal environmental role, Antoni said,

“Indonesia’s vast tropical rainforests not only serve as the lungs of the world but also act as the center of the world’s transition to a credible and equitable carbon economy.”

The minister underlined that aligning with global integrity standards will strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leader in transparent and science-based carbon market development, ensuring tangible benefits for local communities and indigenous peoples.

Indonesia’s efforts are backed by Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025 on the Economic Value of Carbon and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control, issued by President Prabowo Subianto, which provides a robust legal foundation for managing the nation’s carbon market.

Supporting the initiative, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the President’s Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, stated that the collaboration aligns with President Prabowo’s vision to position Indonesia as a global carbon trading hub that upholds integrity and delivers socio-economic benefits to the people.

Meanwhile, ICVCM CEO Amy Merrill praised Indonesia’s progress, describing the collaboration as an important milestone in harmonizing national policies with global standards to achieve measurable climate outcomes.

“This collaboration exemplifies the harmonization of national policies and global standards to achieve tangible climate impact,” Merrill said.

At the UNFCCC COP30, Minister Antoni also led the campaign “Indonesia: From Rainforest to Global Carbon Hub and Marketplace”, promoting Indonesia’s leadership in sustainable forestry and carbon trading. He additionally attended the United for Wildlife Global Summit and High-Level Ministerial Roundtable, organized by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales in Rio de Janeiro on November 4, 2025.
