Indonesia Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Independence

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestinian independence during a meeting with the Chairman of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Rawhi Fattouh, according to an official statement released on Sunday.

“Supporting Palestine is a moral and historical obligation for Indonesia. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the Palestinian people’s struggle, a commitment that has been consistent since Indonesia’s independence,” Maharani conveyed to Fattouh.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a parliamentary discussion forum held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Friday. Maharani underlined that Indonesia’s firm stance in support of Palestine is not only reflected in the position of the government and the Indonesian people, but also actively upheld by the DPR.

“In both bilateral meetings and international forums, the DPR consistently voices support for Palestine and urges global efforts to achieve peace there,” she said.

Maharani stressed that the DPR regularly raises the issue of severe human rights violations against the Palestinian people across various multilateral platforms, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), ASEAN forums, and the United Nations.

She emphasized that these actions are in line with Indonesia’s constitutional mandate to contribute to world peace and international justice.

In her discussion with Chairman Fattouh, Maharani also pledged to further enhance cooperation between the Indonesian DPR and the Palestinian Parliament. She expressed confidence that stronger parliamentary collaboration would help generate wider international support for the Palestinian cause, ultimately enabling the Palestinian people to live in peace and security within their homeland.
