Da Nang, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia emerged as the second-ranked nation in the 2024 ASEAN Schools Games (ASG), held from June 1–7 in Da Nang, Vietnam. The Indonesian contingent clinched a total of 63 medals, including 22 golds, 22 silvers, and 19 bronzes, across six sports disciplines.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports announced the results on its official website on Saturday, highlighting the nation’s impressive performance in the multi-sport event. Swimming was the standout discipline for Indonesia, contributing 11 gold medals. Additionally, Indonesia’s martial arts pencak silat team added 5 golds, while badminton and athletics each secured 2 golds. The martial arts vovinam team and the men’s basketball team each contributed one gold medal.
In the final medal tally, Indonesia finished behind Vietnam, which amassed 44 gold medals, and ahead of Thailand, which secured 17 gold medals. Indonesia’s Chef de Mission (CdM) for the event, Andri Paranoan, expressed his gratitude and pride in the country’s achievements.
“What made us really proud is that we closed this ASG with a gold medal in the men’s basketball event, which is historic for our basketball,” Paranoan remarked.
He emphasized that Indonesia’s success was the result of the collective efforts of all parties involved, from the athletes to the headquarter team. “I see that everything they are doing now is the result of the hard work they put in when they were training. Thus, this is an extraordinary achievement for all the Indonesian sports in this ASG,” Paranoan affirmed.
Paranoan also noted that the ASG, now in its 13th edition, is not just about winning medals but also serves as a platform for young athletes to gain valuable competition experience as part of their development.
The 2024 ASEAN Schools Games showcased the region’s young athletic talent and reinforced Indonesia’s strong presence in the regional sports arena.
