Indonesia, Slovakia Explore Strategic Cooperation in Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies

Indonesia

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has initiated discussions with Slovakia to expand bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy, research, and advanced technologies, as part of efforts to enhance national energy security and scientific capacity.

The proposal was put forward by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Stella Christie during a meeting with Slovak Ambassador to Indonesia Tomas Ferko in Jakarta. The development was confirmed in an official statement reported by media.

During the meeting, Christie highlighted that President Prabowo Subianto has directed the government to accelerate diversification of energy sources, including the adoption of nuclear power, to address disparities in electricity distribution across the archipelago.

She noted that while regions such as Java and Bali currently experience excess electricity supply, several outer regions continue to face shortages. In this context, nuclear energy was identified as a viable and promising solution to meet growing demand in underserved areas.

Christie emphasized Indonesia’s readiness to collaborate with Slovakia in nuclear energy development, including through academic partnerships, knowledge transfer, and scholarship programs aimed at building local expertise.

In addition to energy cooperation, the Indonesian side sought Slovakia’s support in strengthening human resources in key sectors such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and food technology.

Ambassador Ferko welcomed the initiative and underscored the importance of aligning future cooperation with the national priorities of both countries. He stressed that joint efforts should yield tangible economic and social benefits.

The discussions also covered potential collaboration in digital transformation within the health sector, particularly the application of artificial intelligence and the enhancement of cybersecurity systems.

The talks reflect a shared commitment by Indonesia and Slovakia to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors and foster innovation-driven development.
