Indonesia Supports Arab Summit's Cairo Declaration on Gaza Reconstruction

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has expressed its support for the final declaration of the Arab Summit, which outlines joint efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip following the recent Israeli aggression.

“We welcome the Cairo Declaration as a result of the Arab Summit on the reconstruction efforts of Gaza. It holds a deep significance for the Indonesian people,” stated Rolliansyah Soemirat, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a media briefing on Thursday.

Despite not being a participant in the Arab Summit, Indonesia acknowledges the alignment of the Cairo Declaration’s values with its own stance. Soemirat emphasized that these principles will resonate at the upcoming ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled for March 7, which was initiated by several OIC members, including Indonesia.

A key agenda item at the OIC meeting will be the follow-up on the Cairo Declaration and how its objectives align with the collective stance of OIC member states in their ongoing efforts to support Palestinian independence.

Soemirat also underscored a crucial aspect of the declaration: its outright rejection of any attempts to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homeland. He pointed out that several components of the declaration directly and indirectly reflect Indonesia’s long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause, which it consistently advocates in international forums.

“We have also conveyed that Indonesia will be involved in the international community’s efforts for Gaza reconstruction,” Soemirat added.

The Arab Summit, held on March 4, resulted in the adoption of the Cairo Declaration, which includes a comprehensive plan for the initial recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, formulated by Arab nations. The declaration firmly opposes any attempts to displace the Palestinian people under any circumstances and calls for the establishment of a legal committee to examine the classification of such displacement as a crime of genocide.

Additionally, member countries of the summit condemned Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza and denounced the use of siege and famine as instruments to achieve political objectives.

Indonesia’s endorsement of the Cairo Declaration reflects its consistent commitment to supporting Palestine and its advocacy for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
