Indonesian President attends 2022 Annual Session
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the 2022 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) to deliver his annual speech and state budget speech ahead of the 77th commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day, which falls on August 17.
The agenda of the 2022 Annual Session, held at the Parliamentary Complex here on Tuesday, included the President’s Speech as well as the 2022 Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).
In his speech, among others, the president would convey the government’s note on the State Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2023 as well as the financial notes at the opening of the plenary session of the First Session of the House for the 2022-2023 sitting period.
Jokowi, dressed in traditional Paksian clothing from Bangka Belitung Islands Province, arrived at around 9 a.m. along with First Lady Iriana, who wore a modern-designed kebaya, a traditional attire of Javanese women.
The president’s outfit was created by local craftsmen in Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
Meanwhile, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and his wife Wury arrived at the complex at around 8:30 a.m. WIB.
Amin wore a Surakarta Palace traditional attire, while his wife wore a green kebaya.
The 2022 Annual Session of the MPR was inaugurated with the opening remarks of MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo at 9:30 a.m. WIB.
It was followed by the opening of a Joint Session of the DPR and DPD by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani.
Furthermore, President Joko Widodo was also expected to deliver his reports on the performance of government institutions and the speech of Indonesia’s 77th Independence Day Anniversary.
The sessions were attended in person by 435 members of the 711 members of the MPR, DPR, and DPD.
Several ministers, heads of state institutions, as well as chairpersons of political parties were also present.
In addition, the 5th President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri; the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla; the 6th Vice President of Indonesia, Tri Sutrisno; as well as the 9th Vice President of Indonesia, Hamzah Haz, attended the event.
Later, the session would be continued by a Plenary Session of the House at 1:30 p.m. WIB.
