Indonesian Defense Minister Meets U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken

Amman, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, June 11, following their participation in a summit addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Palestine.

During the meeting, Minister Prabowo and Secretary Blinken discussed strategies to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Minister Prabowo expressed Indonesia’s support for United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2735, proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden, which includes a three-phase plan for establishing a lasting ceasefire in the region.

“Indonesia welcomes the adoption of UNSC Resolution 2735,” stated Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumantha, Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, on Wednesday. “Minister Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s readiness to collaborate with countries engaged in mediating the Palestine-Israel conflict, including the United States, Egypt, and Qatar.”

Minister Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to work with these nations to ensure continued negotiations and to realize a comprehensive ceasefire in Palestine. “An immediate, full, and comprehensive ceasefire is essential to revive the peace process,” he conveyed to Secretary Blinken.

Secretary Blinken acknowledged Indonesia’s commitment and stressed the U.S. dedication to advancing the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. “Thank you, Minister Prabowo, for Indonesia’s support for the proposal of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages,” Blinken remarked.

The summit in Amman, hosted by Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, brought together several heads of state and high-ranking officials. Among the attendees were Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, as well as representatives from Lebanon, Japan, Rwanda, Mozambique, Cyprus, Germany, the UK, and the European Union.

This high-level forum highlighted the international community’s commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and underscored the collaborative efforts required to achieve lasting peace in the region.
