Indonesian Independence Day offers women true freedom: House speaker

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani expressed hope on the commemoration of Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day that women and children would experience true freedom.

“We expect that women and children are able to experience true freedom in Indonesia,” Maharani stated here in Jakarta on Thursday.

The House speaker explained that women play a pivotal role in the nation’s development, while children are the hope for the future of Indonesia.

To this end, Maharani noted that true independence should provide equal opportunities for women and children to work and contribute in various areas, including economic and social fields.

The speaker promised that the state will ensure that women and children are free from violent threats, including sexual abuse that is still rampant. She also made assurance to maximize the protection of women and children.

“Because every woman is great, whatever their choice, both housewife and working woman can contribute in their ways, and children of Indonesia are excellent children, who are the pride of the nation when they can get the opportunity to grow and develop,” she affirmed.

Maharani also highlighted the importance of supporting young people. During the digital and globalization era, the role of the youth must be enhanced in every field.

“It is our collective duty to ensure that young people’s voices are heard, their work is valued, and their contributions are appreciated. Indonesian young people have many achievements, so it is very important for us to support them, so that Indonesia can become greater,” Maharani emphasized.

The House speaker is also upbeat that the 78th Independence Day could become a momentum for the people of Indonesia to unite and preserve the nation’s integrity.

Maharani called for independence to become a basis for realizing noble ideals and creating an Indonesia that is more advanced, just, affluent, and prosperous.

“Happy Indonesia’s Independence Day, keep moving forward for greater Indonesia,” she added.
