Indonesian Navy Enhances Defense Capabilities with Launch of Two Domestically Built Offshore Patrol Vessels
Lampung, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has strengthened its maritime defense by commissioning two domestically manufactured offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), KRI Lukas Rumrokem-392 and KRI Raja Haji Fisabilillah-391. The vessels were launched during a ceremony at a shipyard in Bandar Lampung City, officiated by Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali.
Admiral Ali highlighted that the construction of these advanced vessels, driven by Indonesia’s young talents, represents a significant step by the Ministry of Defense to bolster the navy’s operational capabilities. “These patrol vessels are crucial in safeguarding the maritime sovereignty of Indonesia, a nation composed of thousands of islands,” he stated.
The newly launched OPVs are equipped with state-of-the-art anti-aircraft and underwater weaponry. According to the admiral, the vessels will also be outfitted with offensive capabilities for aerial and naval operations, enhancing the striking power of the TNI AL’s weaponry systems.
The OPVs, each measuring 98 meters in length, 13.50 meters in width, and 6.90 meters in height, boast a cruising speed of 20 knots and a top speed of 28 knots. Their monohull design ensures superior performance in speed, making them ideal for law enforcement and search and rescue missions.
Admiral Ali further noted the vessels’ impressive armaments, including Leonardo and Escribano cannons, as well as Roketsan surface-to-surface missile systems. The ships are also equipped with the Terma decoy launching system, providing enhanced protection from naval threats.
The launch of these vessels represents a critical milestone in Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its naval defense and maintain maritime security in the region.
