Indonesian Sports Minister Holds Talks with Malaysian, Singaporean Counterparts
Paris, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, recently met with his counterparts from Malaysia and Singapore, Hannah Yeoh and Edwin Tong, at an Indonesian restaurant in Paris, France. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account @ditoariotedjo, Ariotedjo revealed that the discussion centered around strategies to enhance the performance of ASEAN countries on the global sports stage. The ministers agreed on the importance of collaboration among Southeast Asian nations to improve the quality of their athletic talents.
Ariotedjo emphasized the significance of sharing knowledge and experiences in their respective key sports, as well as the need to establish an elite sports event for teenagers, akin to the Youth Olympic Games. The three ministers also discussed the importance of strengthening sports cooperation in preparation for the 2025 SEA Games and other international sporting events.
Ariotedjo is in Paris to support Indonesia’s 29 athletes, who are competing in 12 sports at the summer Olympics. The Indonesian contingent has so far secured two gold medals, won by men’s speed climber Veddriq Leonardo and men’s 73kg weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah, as well as a bronze medal in women’s singles badminton, claimed by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
Indonesia’s Olympic campaign is set to conclude with Nurul Akmal’s participation in the women’s +81kg weightlifting event at the South Paris Arena 6 on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Paris time.
