Indonesian VP Urges Teachers and Parents to Master AI to Prepare Youth for Digital Future

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has emphasized the need for all segments of society, particularly teachers and parents, to enhance their understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) in order to effectively navigate the ongoing digital transformation.
He made these remarks while attending the AI Ready ASEAN Workshop titled “Empowering Students for the Future: AI Literacy for a Digital ASEAN” in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday.
The vice president noted that the administration of President Prabowo Subianto continues to prioritize the strengthening of science and technology capabilities, including AI literacy, as a key foundation for Indonesia’s national progress.
Gibran stressed that adapting to rapid technological advancements is not solely the responsibility of younger generations. According to him, educators and parents must also actively improve their digital skills to better guide children in an increasingly technology-driven era.
“Parents and teachers must not be left behind. Do not be ashamed to upgrade your skills,” he said.
He further highlighted that mastering AI can open broader access to knowledge and information. However, he warned that such accessibility must be accompanied by strong critical thinking abilities to properly filter, analyze, and utilize information.
“Critical thinking must remain a priority, and computational thinking must also be prioritized,” the vice president added.
Gibran underlined that technological progress, including the rapid development of AI, is inevitable and should be viewed as a strategic tool that supports human activities across multiple sectors, including education, the economy, and public services.
He also stressed that the use of AI must remain ethical, responsible, and aligned with appropriate functional purposes. By adapting to these technological changes, teachers and parents can help ensure that the younger generation not only excels technically but also demonstrates integrity, responsibility, and maturity in using modern technologies.
Concluding his remarks, the vice president reiterated the importance of capacity building among educators.
“Once again, teachers must not be left behind. Do not hesitate to upgrade your skills,” he said.
