Indonesia’s BNPT Chief Outlines Strategies to Prevent Terror Attacks

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Commissioner General Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel, Head of Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), highlighted two key strategies to preempt terror attacks in Indonesia, drawing insights from recent events in Moscow, Russia.

Speaking on Monday (March 25), Dahniel emphasized the imperative of fostering public resilience as a primary measure. He underscored the importance of enhancing public awareness to comprehend that acts of terror constitute humanitarian tragedies capable of undermining civilization. Stressing that no religion advocates terrorism, Dahniel emphasized the role of education in dispelling misconceptions surrounding terrorism.

Additionally, Dahniel underscored the significance of robust law enforcement in preventive efforts. He elucidated that effective law enforcement serves to dissuade potential perpetrators by unequivocally demonstrating that violence is not a justifiable course of action. Dahniel outlined a comprehensive approach to law enforcement, encompassing the apprehension, punishment, and rehabilitation of terror perpetrators through deradicalization programs.

These initiatives, Dahniel emphasized, constitute proactive measures undertaken by BNPT in response to the Moscow attack, which could potentially inspire similar incidents in Indonesia.

In related developments, BNPT has rolled out seven programs aimed at curbing terrorism, reflecting the agency’s concerted efforts to address security threats effectively.

The terrorist attack at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall on March 22 prompted international concern. According to data from the Russian Investigative Committee reported by Sputnik on March 23, the death toll from the attack has risen to 133 individuals. The perpetrators, identified as Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Rachabalizodu, Shamsidin Fariduni, and Muhammadsobir Fayzov, have been apprehended.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that as of March 23, no Indonesian citizens were among the casualties of the attack. The Ministry’s Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities, Judha Nugraha, assured that the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow promptly liaised with local authorities and established communication with the Indonesian community in Russia to ensure their safety and well-being.
