Indonesia’s KPK Advocates for Technology Integration in Corruption Eradication at ASEAN-PAC Meeting
Denpasar, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) emphasized the importance of technology in combating corruption during the 20th Principals Meeting of the ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC) held in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.
KPK Deputy Chairperson Alexander Marwata, in his opening remarks, stressed that a technology-based, collaborative approach is essential for effectively addressing corruption, particularly in the ASEAN region.
“Corruption knows no borders. It undermines economic growth, erodes public trust, and hampers progress in many ASEAN countries,” Marwata stated, underlining the cross-border implications of corrupt practices.
He highlighted that the strategic application of technology can significantly enhance collaborative efforts among ASEAN member states. Digital tools, according to Marwata, provide platforms for information sharing, joint investigations, and real-time monitoring, making them indispensable for tackling the complexities arising from the region’s cultural, resource, and historical diversity.
“The role of technology has become even more critical. It offers transformative power to build trust between nations and address persistent challenges,” he added.
Marwata also emphasized the need for a clear framework, a robust legal system, and consistent political commitment from ASEAN-PAC member states to implement technological solutions effectively.
The forum is expected to align its anti-corruption efforts more comprehensively with the ASEAN community’s broader goals. By integrating their initiatives into the ASEAN framework, ASEAN-PAC countries can present their findings and recommendations at the ASEAN Summit, fostering a spirit of cooperation, mutual support, and shared responsibility among member nations.
The ASEAN-PAC meeting in Bali serves as a pivotal moment for advancing regional anti-corruption strategies and underscores the transformative potential of technology in fostering transparency and accountability across Southeast Asia.
