Iran and Turkmenistan Discuss Strengthening Economic Cooperation

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian ministers of Oil and Foreign Affairs hosted a high-level Turkmen delegation led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov for talks aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the economic sector. The discussions took place on Wednesday, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Meredov leading the negotiations.

During a joint press conference following their talks, Araghchi highlighted the long-standing historical and cultural ties between Iran and Turkmenistan, emphasizing Iran’s early recognition of Turkmenistan’s independence and its policy of neutrality. He also expressed appreciation for Turkmenistan’s active role in supporting international peace initiatives, including two recent United Nations resolutions.

The two ministers also addressed a range of regional and international issues, including the situations in Afghanistan and Gaza. Araghchi noted that Iran and Turkmenistan have shared perspectives on both matters, especially the situation in Gaza. Both countries oppose the U.S. President’s plan to resettle Palestinian residents to other nations.

Meredov extended his congratulations to Iran on the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, wishing the country continued peace, prosperity, and development. He praised the ongoing political dialogue between the two nations, acknowledging that high-level visits and negotiations have played a significant role in enhancing bilateral relations.

The Turkmen Foreign Minister also underscored the importance of expanding cooperation in various sectors, including trade, energy, electricity, gas, transportation, and ecology. He announced that a meeting of the Iran-Turkmenistan joint economic cooperation commission would take place soon, though the exact date has yet to be determined.
